Advanced level training

The swim school recently held an advanced level training day, and to the delight of everyone in attendance, it was facilitated by the one and only Tracey Menzies. Tracey is a well-known figure in the world of swimming, a Swimming Australia coach and former Olympic coach, and shared an abundance of knowledge and experience with our team of instructors and coaches.

The training session was split into three main focuses.

1. What to do as a coach

Tracey reminded our team of the importance of confidence, competence, character and connectedness, and the overall role that each coach will have in the development of their students and the continuation of the sport.

2. Teaching and correcting all four strokes on an advanced level

From what to look for to body position and teaching advanced drills, Tracey covered a range of information about the skill development within each stroke.

3. Lesson and season planning both short and long term

This section focused more on our Club Aquatics squad program, helping our coaches to better understand goal setting and season planning by targeting meets and documenting the progression of individual athletes.

The training day was a huge success and demonstrated the amazing amount of talent we have within our team. A huge thank you to Tracey Menzies for sharing her insights with us and helping to make our program a benchmark in the industry for teaching methods and practices.
